TÜV AUSTRIA creates “forests of the future”

On this year’s International Day of Forests, TÜV AUSTRIA is presenting an ambitious project: the “TÜV AUSTRIA Forests of the Future.” Since 2024, the internationally active Austrian group of companies has been sending a strong signal for climate protection and social responsibility. As a visible and long-term commitment to sustainability, the first company-owned forests were created in Romania, an important core market for TÜV AUSTRIA in Europe.

Large areas of land were acquired in the immediate vicinity of TÜV AUSTRIA locations and have been and are being systematically reforested.

  • Boldești-Scăeni (Wallachia): In the future, 65,000 trees will thrive on 9.5 hectares.
  • Buda, near the Carpathians: 15,000 saplings were planted on 4.5 hectares.
  • Gorgota and Păulești (Bucharest–Ploiești region): 45,000 young trees are growing on 16.5 hectares, and another 120,000 on an additional 72 hectares. In 2026, another 210,000 trees are scheduled to be planted in Păulești—forming the largest TÜV AUSTRIA forest to date.

By the end of 2027, a total of 540,000 new trees, mainly black locust acacia, oak and ash seedlings, will have been planted on over 120 hectares. TÜV AUSTRIA CEO Dr. Stefan Haas: “With the TÜV AUSTRIA forests of the future, we are creating something lasting. Pictured left Dr. Stefan Haas, CEO TÜV AUSTRIA Group (l) and Dr. Doru Fulga, Managing Director TÜV AUSTRIA Romania.

Each of these 540,000 trees stands for responsibility – towards the climate, towards society, and towards future generations.” A mature tree absorbs an average of 22 kilograms of CO2per year (Ross Bernet, 2023).

TÜV AUSTRIA is currently examining the feasibility of further forest projects in Europe. “The goal is to plant a total of one million trees by 2030. Our commitment is much more than a contribution to CO₂ reduction; it is a promise: we are acting today for the world of tomorrow,” says Haas.
