In Burkina Faso, half of the population lives below the poverty line, permanent jobs are rare – and there is a shortage of skilled workers. Girls and women are particularly affected. TÜV AUSTRIA has been supporting the construction of the Lycée Technique Béthel de Nanoro technical school since 2019 and donated €15,000 again this year.
The project was initiated by the mayor of Nanoro Jaques Konkobo and the Maria Enzersdorf architect Peter Klein, both graduates of HTL Mödling.
The project is part of the ICEP association’s RéCouVrer program, which strengthens the resilience of vulnerable people in West Africa.
Every Advent Sunday, we provide insights into this initiative, which opens up career prospects for young people.
Mrs. Sanata Kiendrebeogo, a pupil at the Lycée Technique Béthel de Nanoro, talks about her fate: “Before I received the scholarship from the RéCouVrer project, my education was very uncertain. My parents, who are internally displaced persons, no longer had the means to pay my school fees. I was about to give up my accounting studies to help my mother sell at the market. Thanks to this scholarship, I was able to pay my fees, stay in boarding school and concentrate on my lessons. I even achieved a grade point average of 13.5 in the last quarter, which gave me new self-confidence. This help has not only enabled me to continue attending school, but has also motivated me to encourage other girls to persevere. Today, I dream of becoming an accountant in a large company and contributing to the financial independence of women in my community. I would like to thank the RéCouVrer project and the Lycée Béthel for believing in me.”
