Advisory Board for Ensuring Impartiality
As an accredited certification and verification body, we fulfil our obligation to ensure the highest levels of both actual and perceived impartiality. To this end, the Advisory Board for Ensuring Impartiality was established in 2008.
Why does TÜV AUSTRIA GMBH operate an Advisory Board for Ensuring Impartiality?
TÜV AUSTRIA GMBH fulfils its obligation (in accordance with ISO/IEC 17021 and ISO/IEC 17065) as an accredited certification and verification body and established the BSU in 2008 to ensure the highest level of actual and perceived objectivity. A set of rules of procedure was drawn up for this purpose.
What are the objectives of the Advisory Board and which topics does it address?
The objective is for the Advisory Board to certify the impartiality of the TÜV AUSTRIA GMBH certification body, a decision on which is taken by the Advisory Board through a vote.
Scope of topics:
- Development of fundamental regulations concerning the impartiality of certification activities.
- Prevention of any tendency on the part of the certification body to allow commercial or other factors that might impede the consistent and objective provision of certification activities.
- Advising on issues that influence confidence in certification, including transparency and public perception.
- Regular assessment of the impartiality of the certification body’s audits, certifications and decision-making processes.
Who is invited to the Advisory Board meeting?
In accordance with the rules of procedure, the Advisory Board consists of at least 12 members who – in order to ensure the greatest possible diversity – are drawn from the certification bodies’ clients, representatives of industry and trade associations, regulatory authorities or other government bodies, and representatives of NGOs, including consumer organisations. A written invitation is sent to the Advisory Board members once the agenda has been drawn up.
