As a natural resource, water accompanies people throughout their lives. Austria is unique in that groundwater from springs and wells is used exclusively for drinking water supply. In Austria, 5,500 drinking water suppliers are responsible for the reliable and safe supply of drinking water in their region. They operate and maintain 1.5 million house connection pipes and just as many water meters. The drinking water is regularly tested on behalf of the water suppliers in accordance with legal requirements and is subject to strict quality controls.
Certification of water suppliers as a mark of quality
Water suppliers bear a high level of responsibility for the health of the population. We carry out independent and regular testing of drinking water quality in accordance with the Drinking Water Ordinance. As part of a 5-yearly §134 WRG inspection, we confirm the self-monitoring and all legal requirements, as well as the perfect structural condition of the drinking water supply system. Once the §134 WRG inspection has been completed without any deficiencies, a certificate can be issued for the drinking water supplier. This is a way of communicating the high quality standard to customers.
