Solution: Elevator attendant training

Authorized persons

As the operator, you must ensure that your elevator/escalator can be operated safely.

Elevator attendants are persons appointed by the operator who are trained by our TÜV AUSTRIA experts directly at the installation on site – completely independent of the manufacturer – in order to be familiar with the intended use of the respective elevator installation.

After passing the test, the participants receive an elevator attendant certificate documenting their qualification. By documenting the elevator attendants in the inspection logbook at the installation on site, you comply with the documentation obligation.

The elevator attendant’s tasks include rapid emergency rescue if necessary, knowledge of the dangers associated with the elevator system and when rescuing people, as well as ongoing visual and functional checks.
As part of the functional check, it must be ensured, among other things, that

• the car can only start up when the landing door is closed
• the car has the required stopping accuracy
• the emergency call system is working properly
• the safety devices are effective
  etc

We recommend that elevator attendants refresh their training at regular intervals to ensure that they are always up to date. A good opportunity for this is the annual“regular elevator inspection” required by law.
