Air: Measurements of Air Pollutant Emissions

Air pollution is a major impact of industrialized society. Environmental protection measures can reduce this pollution. To achieve this, it is necessary to determine the quantity and concentration of individual pollutants by measuring air pollutant emissions, thereby identifying whether limit values are being met or exceeded.

As an accredited testing and inspection body, TÜV AUSTRIA offers its customers services of the highest standard in this field.

Measurements in accordance with the
Combustion Plant Ordinance (FAV)

This regulation applies to combustion plants in commercial facilities where fuels are burned for the purpose of generating useful heat or mechanical energy and whose fuel thermal output is at least 0.1 MW.

Measurements in accordance with the
Waste Incineration Ordinance (AVV)

The Waste Incineration Ordinance (BGBl. II No. 389/2002, as amended ) sets forth the requirements for the operation of facilities for the incineration of waste and substitute fuels derived from waste. A key component of the regulation is the documentation, reporting, and testing requirements for exhaust gases and fuels.

Emissions measurements according to EG-K 2013

Emissions measurements provide information on the parameters and concentrations of emissions from a facility. For the operator, the results provide valuable information for operational changes (plant expansion, capacity increase, modernization, optimization, etc.). In accordance with relevant regulations, operators of industrial facilities must determine the type and extent of emissions from the facility.

The Emission Control Act for Boiler Plants was amended with the publication of Federal Law Gazette I No. 173/2023 on December 30, 2023.

The amendment affects operators of facilities with steam boilers, gas turbines, or engines with a power output of up to 50 MW, as well as companies such as TÜV AUSTRIA GmbH that monitor such facilities.

In addition to our monitoring activities as a designated body (SV) pursuant to Section 34 (monitoring under Section 33, emissions measurement under Section 35, verification of continuous measurements, and preparation of steam boiler plant records), we provide the following support regarding compliance with operator obligations for combustion plants on the edm portal:

  • Updating master data
  • Submission of emission declarations
  • Registration as an MCP (1–50 MW)
