Solution: High Performance Tankinspection
High Performance Tankinspection
High-performance tank inspection
The safe operation of a flat-bottom storage tank requires a variety of different non-destructive tests in order to detect damage in good time. At TÜV AUSTRIA, we carry out various tests to ultimately determine the condition of a tank.
For example, the tank bottom, tank wall, tank roof, heating register, ring heaters, and attachments are checked for wall thickness reductions due to corrosion and geometric changes using suitable special testing techniques.
The overall assessment is carried out by a certified inspector in accordance with EEMUA 159.
Pipescan HD
Ferromagnetic pipelines are inspected for wear (material loss due to corrosion) using the Pipescan HD inspection system.
The Pipescan HD is the magnetic flux leakage (MFL) scanner with the highest resolution on the market. The higher resolution improves the overall efficiency of the integrity assessment. In addition, the increased inspection speed speeds up the workflow.
UT crawler for tank wall inspection
A UT crawler is used to determine wall thickness profiles on the tank wall. The Scorpion2 scanner can perform wall thickness measurements up to a height of 50 meters without scaffolding. The Scorpion2 is remotely controlled using the Swift UT Portable unit. The aim of the inspection is to detect any possible reductions in wall thickness in the tank wall area. The measurements are recorded in absolute values.
Floor scanning of the tank bottom
Two testing techniques are primarily used here:
- SLOFEC testing using MEC-F15
- MFL testing using Floormap X
Advantages of the testing systems:
- Storage of all measurement data
- Distinction between top and bottom corrosion
- Testing possible through coating thicknesses of up to 10 mm
- Wall thicknesses up to 30 mm can be tested
- Test speed approx. 25 m/min
- Color-coded tank bottom damage pattern
- Online evaluation
- Reproducible measurement results
Additional testing techniques
Additional testing techniques for assessing the condition of flat-bottom storage tanks
- Short Range Ultrasonic Test for testing the tank wall/tank bottom areas
- ISONIC 3510 / Navic phased array technology for scanning roof elements
- 3D laser scan for measuring the entire tank and detecting unevenness, inclinations, and deformations
Acoustic emission testing for integral condition assessment of the tank bottom without emptying and opening the tank
