Intensive measurements
Insulation faults and damage to the pipe coating that cannot be clearly identified during routine inspections can be precisely located using intensive measurements. Since the cathodic protection current always flows only to the defects in the pipe coating, voltage drops occur at these defects, which can be detected at the ground surface using two probes or reference electrodes. When plotted graphically, they form a funnel. The tip of the funnel, known as the voltage funnel, represents the geometric center of the defect. After locating the defects, the pipe/ground potential is measured at these points.
