TÜV AUSTRIA operates an internationally renowned, state-of-the-art training center for non-destructive testing (NDT) at the Technology & Innovation Center in Vienna-Inzersdorf.

Whether in the energy supply, aviation, vehicle and railroad industries, bridge or pressure equipment construction – all of these sectors would be inconceivable without NDT testing as an indispensable tool for quality control and assurance. During the test procedures, components that are not damaged during the test are checked for quality defects that could impair their usability.
In November 2018, TÜV AUSTRIA launched a well-founded and practical training program in the field of NDT, which is recording steadily growing numbers of participants. In 2024 alone, more than 700 procedures were trained.
Image 1: Evaluation of an X-ray film using a viewing device: after exposure and development of the X-ray film, this is a very complex process that is based on experience, good training and sound knowledge of standards.
The training courses comprise initial courses with a final examination. After five years, the examination is renewed and a further five years later, all NDT examiners must undergo comprehensive re-qualification. Following a successful examination, the Austrian Society for Non-Destructive Testing (ÖGfZP) issues the corresponding certificates as an accredited personal certification body.
The TÜV AUSTRIA training courses are aimed at employees of companies in the fields of metal construction, plant construction, pipeline construction, pressure equipment construction, etc. who carry out or supervise tests and inspections in the certified area of ÖNORM EN ISO 9712. During the training, they learn selected test procedures in theory and practice.
