Inspection of washing systems in accordance with ÖNORM B 5022: Legionella-safe and hygienically impeccable
In addition to microbiological guidelines, ÖNORM B 5022 also describes the necessary measures to be taken if these guidelines are exceeded. This ensures that the washing water is hygienically safe and poses no health risks, in line with the general duty of care for employees and customers. Implementation of this standard offers operators legal certainty that they are operating a car wash in accordance with the current state of the art.
Since then, the experts at TÜV AUSTRIA have been regularly inspecting car washes in accordance with ÖNORM B 5022 for the following parameters:
- Legionella (including determination of the serogroup)
- Pseudomonas aeroginosa
- Aerobic colony count at 37°C
For users of the car wash facilities, the risk of infection is minimized, while operators receive assistance in ensuring that the facility is operated in a hygienically impeccable manner. The major benefit for the operator clearly lies in the improved protection of their customers and operating personnel. If the car wash is operated in accordance with ÖNORM B 5022, the operator can no longer be assumed to have acted negligently in the event of a potential incident with health implications, as compliance with the requirements of the standard represents state-of-the-art operation of the facility.
