Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
In which region do you need this solution?
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
We support you in developing robust LCA analyses that comply with international standards, enabling you to meet market demands and obtain reliable environmental data on your products.
- Respond to requests from clients, B2B supply chains and public tenders
- Obtain an LCA study tailored to your objective, without managing complexity and data collection yourself
- Use results for EPD, ecodesign and product development
Life Cycle Assessment consulting: specialist support for LCA analysis
The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a standardised methodology based on the norms ISO 14040 and ISO 14044, used for assessing the environmental impacts of a product throughout its life cycle. It allows one to understand which steps and processes have the greatest impact on environmental impacts and to obtain solid data for technical, commercial and strategic decisions.
That is why today is increasingly in demand from large supply chain customers, in the process of obtaining the EPD certification, in the development of new products and, in perspective, also in relation to instruments such as the Digital Product Passport. Furthermore, LCA analysis can provide a useful technical basis for developing product eco-design strategies.
Ollum offers highly specialized LCA consulting and supports companies in all phases of the study, from perimeter definition and data collection to modelling and interpretation of results.
LCA analysis tailored to your objectives
Every LCA project stems from adifferent need. This is why we structure our service in a flexible way, determining the most appropriate level of detail and designing a study that is tailored to the company’s specific context.
We support companies in different application scenarios:
- Product LCA study to analyse life-cycle environmental impacts
- LCA for EPD certifications as the technical basis for the environmental product declaration
- Comparative LCAs to compare alternative solutions and support technical and commercial decisions
- LCA for ecodesign strategies to improve the environmental performance of products
- Whole Building LCA for buildings, useful for LEED credits, BREEAM and other building protocols
- Project LCA estimates (PFTE) for the sustainability report of the works
- LCA-LCC integrated analysis to access the award criteria of the building CAM
- Development of LCA Tool to make analyses scalable across product families
What are the benefits of an LCA?
Developing a life cycle analysis with the support of specialised LCA consultants can bring several benefits to the company, including:
Respond to requests from clients and supply chain
More and more companies are asking suppliers for reliable environmental product data. An LCA study enables a robust response to B2B requests, supplier qualification, tenders and public calls for tenders.
Prepare for EPD certification
The LCA is often the technical basis needed to develop an EPD and to more competitively address markets, customers and contexts where product environmental transparency is increasingly relevant.
Improve the product with hard data
An LCA study helps to understand which phases, materials or processes have the greatest impact on a product’s environmental impacts. It is therefore a useful technical basis for developing product eco-design strategies and more consciously directing development and innovation choices.
What steps does our LCA consulting involve?
Our Life Cycle Assessment consulting consists of the following steps:
1. Definition of the objective and scope of the study
We analyse the business context and the purpose of the project to define the most suitable type of LCA study, the perimeter to be considered and the level of depth required.
2. Data collection and modelling
We support the company in data collection necessary, involving suppliers or other internal functions when necessary, and we build the LCA model according to the applicable standards.
3. Analysis of impacts and interpretation of results
We process the data with specialised LCA software to identify the environmental hotspots, compare scenarios and generate reliable and decision-useful results.
4. LCA report and support for further development
We return the results of the study through the LCA Report and support the company in possible further developments, such as the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), strategies of product ecodesign, comparative analyses between products or scalable tools such as LCA Tool.
What standards does the Life Cycle Assessment follow?
Life Cycle Assessment is mainly based on international standards ISO 14040 and ISO 14044, which define principles, requirements and guidelines for conducting the LCA study.
These standards guarantee a structured and internationally recognised methodological approach, which is essential when the analysis is to be used in commercial, technical or certification contexts.
