High-quality play and recreational equipment is defined by three key factors: play value (or experience value), attractiveness, and safety – ensured through TÜV AUSTRIA playground inspections.

Play value and attractiveness must be considered already at the design stage. Safety, on the other hand, depends largely on proper construction, as well as correct installation and layout on site – TÜV AUSTRIA supports both manufacturers and operators throughout this process.

A particular benefit for our clients is TÜV AUSTRIA’s leading role in the development of playground safety standards in Austria (chair) and across Europe (chair of the surfacing standard).

Criteria for Safe Play and Recreational Equipment

  • Sufficient strength and structural stability
  • No hazardous traps, with clearly recognizable risks within play sequences
  • Adequate clearance and fall spaces
  • Impact protection appropriate to the free fall height
  • Consistent inspection and maintenance management
