Module B, the EU type examination, is a conformity assessment procedure that applies to both the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU and the Simple Pressure Vessels Directive 2014/29/EU. In both EU directives, type examination is available in two variants.
Under Module B (Design Type), the Notified Body reviews the technical documentation (drawings, parts lists, flowcharts, etc.) and, if the outcome is positive, issues an EU Type Examination Certificate. Under Module B (Type), in addition to the technical documentation, the Notified Body examines a representative physical sample of the device.
To complete the conformity assessment in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Directive, Module B may be combined with a final inspection under Module F, an approved quality management system (Module E or D), or a supervised inspection of pressure equipment (Module C2). Under the Simple Pressure Vessels Directive, Modules C, C1, or C2 may be combined, depending on the risk category.
