Wind Energy – Inspect, Certify, and Operate Safely
We support you from the planning stage through to the safe operation of your wind energy projects
The expansion of wind power is progressing rapidly and is a key component of energy security and the energy transition. At the same time, the technical, legal, and organizational requirements for operators, manufacturers, and project managers are increasing.
TÜV AUSTRIA provides comprehensive support for wind energy projects—from planning and construction through to safe, standards-compliant operation. If wind energy facilities are to be operated beyond their planned service life, we prepare expert reports on service life extensions
Why Certified Wind Turbines Are Critical to Project Success
Wind power projects are complex infrastructure projects involving large capital investments, safety-critical components, and long-term operational goals. Errors in planning, execution, or operation lead to increased risks, loss of revenue, and liability issues.
Key challenges include:
- increasing legal and regulatory inspection requirements
- Safety requirements during the construction phase and ongoing operation
- Work at heights
- Technical aging of systems and components
- Documentation for authorities, investors, and insurance companies
- Reliable yield forecasts and operational safety
Independent inspections, well-founded assessments, and standard-compliant testing procedures are therefore essential for economically and technically sustainable plant operation.
TÜV AUSTRIA supports operators, manufacturers, and project developers with a broad portfolio of technicaltesting, certification, and consulting services, from the initial project concept through ongoing operation.

More Information on Wind Energy & Hybrid Power Generation
The technical evaluation and testing of wind turbines are based on recognized national and international regulations. A key foundation is the ISO 61400 series for wind turbines, supplemented by legal requirements, safety standards, and regulatory mandates.
The combination of photovoltaic systems and wind energy also offers significant potential for stable and efficient energy generation. Both technologies have different generation profiles and thus complement each other ideally throughout the day and across the entire year.
While photovoltaic systems achieve their highest output when the sun is shining—usually around noon—wind energy can generate electricity regardless of sunlight. Wind conditions are often more stable in the evening and at night, so wind turbines supply energy precisely when PV systems are not producing.
There are also clear complementary effects on a seasonal basis: Photovoltaic systems achieve their highest output during the sunny summer months, while wind turbines generate more electricity especially in the fall and winter—when winds are stronger and solar radiation is lower.
These complementary characteristics result in a significantly more balanced energy profile with reduced fluctuations in generation. The combined use of wind and PV can therefore:
- increase the reliability of the power supply
- better balance peak loads
- reduce the need for storage solutions
- utilize grid connections more efficiently
- improve the economic viability of projects
Hybrid projects are therefore becoming increasingly important and are an essential component of sustainable energy systems.
