TÜV AUSTRIA Hotel Safety and Security Standard
Information, target group & prerequisites
The TÜV AUSTRIA Hotel Safety & Security Standard is a quality and safety standard for the comprehensive certification of all hygiene and safety-relevant areas in your hotel. With your certification according to this standard, you make your quality and safety system transparent for your guests and employees and thus demonstrate your responsibility towards your stakeholders. In addition to hygiene, water and food quality, technical systems, IT security, emergency management and fire protection measures are also analyzed in the international, uniform test procedure. Use the potential for improvement identified by the certification to further improve your high quality and safety standards and the trust placed in you by your guests and employees!
Certification in accordance with the TÜV AUSTRIA Hotel Safety & Security Standard is possible for any type of accommodation establishment, regardless of the star category or quality mark.
The prerequisite for this is a valid business license.
The certificate is valid for three years and may be used for advertising purposes in accordance with the certification regulations. The certification logo can be used, for example, on stationery, the website (in each case in connection with the organization). For legal reasons, the planned use must be approved or confirmed by the certification body.
Advantages of TÜV AUSTRIA Hotel Safety & Security Standard
With your certification according to the TÜV AUSTRIA Hotel Safety & Security Standard, you make your high quality and safety standards visible to your guests, thus creating trust in your hotel and your services.
Meet the constantly growing security needs of your customers with your security certificate. Demonstrate your focus on safety during the booking process with the TÜV AUSTRIA certification logo and ensure a sense of security before the start of the trip.
The certificate sets you apart from your competitors and gives you a market advantage in the industry. Take advantage of potential for improvement and always be one step ahead of your competitors!
Your certification makes your hotel even more attractive as a workplace for existing and potential employees, as you demonstrate a high level of commitment to safety and hygiene as a responsible employer and thus make a significant contribution to the well-being of your staff.
Your safety certificate also contributes to legal certainty: Independent verification can have a positive effect on your insurance risk rating, which in turn benefits you in the event of liability and damage claims.
The internationally standardized test procedure guarantees Austrian quality and safety standards at home and abroad, regardless of local legislation. You can therefore seek certification for your hotels across national borders.
Certification process
A certification process usually takes between three and five weeks. We take your individual requirements and the urgency of your certification into account right from the planning stage. We determine the exact effort, duration and costs together with you prior to the certification process. Every certification process therefore begins with an information meeting.
1. Information meeting
During a non-binding and free consultation, we will inform you about the procedure for obtaining your certificate. The following points will also be clarified:
- Basic requirements for certification
- Objectives and benefits of certification
- Comparison of company data and definition of the scope of certification
- Discussion of your specific requirements and wishes
- Determination of the next necessary steps towards certification
On the basis of this information meeting, you will receive an individual offer tailored to your hotel.
2. Commissioning
If you are satisfied with the offer, the certification body will be commissioned. After you have received an order confirmation, the certification process begins with a joint appointment with the responsible auditor.
3. Pre-audit (optional)
A pre-audit can be carried out on request. However, this is not a necessary prerequisite for certification.
Specific hygiene or safety-relevant areas of your hotel are audited on the basis of a jointly defined framework. Any deficiencies will be identified. On request, a pre-audit can provide you with a status report regarding the basic certifiability or detailed expertise on individual areas or processes. The audit methodology corresponds to that of the certification audit.
4. Submission of all relevant documents
The documents to be submitted in advance are determined by mutual agreement.
5. On-site visit by the auditor
The inspection period lasts approximately 24 hours, with the auditor checking in in the early afternoon of the first day and leaving the hotel at midday the following day. During the inspection, both the rooms accessible to your guests and those areas to which guests do not have access are assessed against the standard.
During the final meeting, you will be informed of the audit result and any deficiencies or deviations. In the event of deviations, appropriate corrective measures are defined.
6. TÜV AUSTRIA certificate
The actual certification is issued by the TÜV AUSTRIA certification body after the audit and reporting have been completed on the basis of the audit report. Once the certification requirements have been met, nothing stands in the way of a certificate being issued quickly.
A certificate is issued for a period of 3 years. In order to maintain the validity of the certificate for the entire term, an annual surveillance audit must be carried out or positively completed (12 months and 24 months after the certificate is issued).
7. Surveillance audits
The effectiveness and further development of your quality and safety system are randomly checked during the annual surveillance audit. Surveillance audits are shorter in terms of the scope of the audit and are carried out by expert auditors.
8. Re-certification audit
This must be carried out before the certificate expires (usually after three years). In a re-certification audit (often also referred to as a repeat audit), all requirement points are randomly checked in the same way as in a certification audit. The work involved in this repeat certification procedure is shorter than in an initial certification procedure (approx. 2/3 of the audit time of an initial certification procedure).
After a positive certification decision, a new certificate with a validity of three years is issued, which is again confirmed by annual surveillance audits.
